Infrared Scan (IR)

What is an Infrared Scan?

An Infrared Scan, also known as Infrared (IR) Thermography, helps find anomalies hidden in places hard to see, such as walls, floors, ceilings, etc. The scan can see differences in heat which can indicate moisture issues, insulation issues and even electrical hazards.

Why is an Infrared Scan required?

Minor issues can become major when there are issues hidden in walls, floors, ceilings, and other areas. Not only can issues be costly to repair, but they may also pose health risks to your family.

What is covered in an Infrared Scan?

An Infrared Scan will seek out a variety of issues that cannot be seen on the surface with a visual inspection. Key areas looked for include:

  • Electrical hotspots: Elevated temperatures could signify an overloaded electrical circuit, one of the nation’s leading causes of residential fires.
  • Poor insulation: Missing ceiling insulation could raise your monthly electric bill because outdoor air is coming indoors. Additionally, poor insulation could lead to dangerous ice dams for states with snow.
  • Water leakages: Moisture in walls and other areas can lead to many health issues and home damage. WIN Home Inspectors use thermal imaging to find hidden leaks.
  • Duct leakages: Infrared scans can detect HVAC ducting issues that cause inefficiency and higher heating and cooling costs.
